How to develop cost-optimised IT architecture that is functional and competitive right from the start and is adaptable as can be to meet future needs?

The task: Design of a high-performance yet cost-effective IT system for a company among the top 10 residential property managers in Germany. In only 2 years the aspiring real estate company needed to develop and operate an IT architecture that took into consideration all existing systems within the industry. The particular challenge: in a market of great transformation, a flexible system was necessary that at any time could be tailored to suit the changing needs of a start-up company in terms of growth and market requirements.

The solution: We opted for a service-oriented architecture (SOA) whose core applications are immediately ready for operation - while still open enough to gradually interconnect with one another via web services. Scalability also played a decisive role. To a large extent the solution was implemented on virtualised server systems in an external data processing centre while using free open-source software whenever possible.

Critical to the ultimate success of the project was the interaction of a motivated team of employees and partners with the right infrastructure.
